PP Sewage pipes ensuring a healthier future in Asia and the Middle East

Many PP sewage systems have now been in service for over 30 years and since the introduction of stiff PP-B for non-pressure sewage pipes at the end of the 90’s it has achieved remarkably high growth. This was driven primarily by the introduction of the new generation of PP-HM (High Modulus) developed especially for non-pressure buried sewage pipe systems.

The Asia/Middle East PP sewage pipe market is now set for a similar strong growth to that witnessed in Europe. With the continued failure of sewage systems made from concrete and asbestos cement pipes, there is a significant opportunity for plastic pipes to replace existing networks and improve the standard of life in Asia and the Middle East.

The initial section of this paper will underline the benefits and whole life value of PP compared to other materials. This will be followed by a study of the potential growth and subsequent opportunities for plastic pipes in Asia and the Middle East. Such a study will highlight the enormous potential for plastics in this segment in this region.

Finally, specific case stories from Borouge’s development work of PP-B for sewage networks in Asia/Middle East will be presented. These will showcase the practical benefits of PP non-pressure pipes and inspire further growth for plastic sewage, drainage and industrial pipe systems. Relevant case studies will include projects for sewage systems and for new petrochemical and energy complexes, which are currently hardly using Polyolefin pipes in their construction.
